Why do I itch severly after I shower? Am I allergic to something?

I take hot showers. I'm using Dove Sensitive skin body wash (fragance-free, and hypo-allergenic) and I exfoliate with a puff (I rotate between 3). Afterwards I moisturize with baby oil, and or Jergens body lotion for extra dry skin. Sometimes I use extra virgin olive oil with sugar as a body scrub (exfoliation purposes). I exfoliate with every shower because of my keratosis pilaris.

What can be causing me to itch so severly? Could it possibly be my towels? I use them 2-3 times before I wash them, and in between showers I hang them over the curtain rod.

Why do I itch severly after I shower? Am I allergic to something?
I swear to you I have the same thing, and it is just a skin sensitivity issue. In other words, after shaving, scrubbing, using hot water, then drying off, your skin is over stimulated and you get itchy!! happens to me all the time. Believe it or not, my doctor prescribed Zantac (yes for the stomach) because it has a H-2 blocker in it (for allergies) I take it when I have a reaction, and it goes away very fast. Talk to your doctor about a skin sensitivity test....I was at the end of my rope thinking I was allergic to water!!! Now I don't scrub as hard-NEVER exfoliate, use soft clothes, semi hot water, and blot myself dry instead of rubbing, and haven't had many reactions since!!! good luck!!

I just wanted to add that I don't need to waste my money on any "special" soaps or shampoos anymore.
Reply:I suffered for months before I finally got my answer...I thought I was going to lose my mind. When I saw your question I was delighted to help! Best of luck to you!!!! Report It

Reply:you don't say how often you shower. If it is daily, you are drying out your skin regardless of what you put on it afterwards. You should not shower more often than every third day.
Reply:might be the water is too hot for your skin.

It usually happens when the soap is too acidic or alkaline for ones skin, but i dont think this is the case with you
Reply:It could be the hot water you're using.

Or, if these are new washes you're using, it could be an allergic reaction.

Perhaps the detergent you're using to wash your towels is too strong. You shouldn't wash them that often, though.
Reply:try using cooler water, I do not mean freezing water but a little more cool than hot. I just usually wrap up in a robe instead of using towels, and I moisturize while my skin is still damp. Maybe instead of lotion you should use powder maybe there is something in your lotion that is causing a reaction.
Reply:Probably you are having the water too hot, cool it down a bit and see if its as bad;
Reply:Maybe its not as hypo-allergenic as your body needs it to be. Could be a million things. The laundry detergent angle might be something to look at also...Does any of your other clothes make you itch?
Reply:It sounds like eczema to me.. lay off hot showers
Reply:This means you have to much chlorine in your water, and some people react to that, when a pool has to much chlorine the same thing happens, its not good for your eyes so be careful I would change your water system if I were you.
Reply:your skin may be dry - i have dry skin and usually put lotion on after i shower. if your skin is sensitive, maybe it coul be that - hope i helped
Reply:You seem to be using too much 'crap' on your skin combined with the hot water. Lower the temp and lay off all the oils and scrubs for a while. see if that helps.

Also I have sensitive skin and have reacted ( with rashes) to some cleansers which are supposed to be for senistive skin. Talk to your dermatologist.
Reply:Have u try using another soap for Sensitive skin or your water must be too hot try warm water not unless the washing powder u use to wash towel.Try use Nivea cream instead of baby oil.
Reply:Take a look at the shampoo you use too...it could cause a reaction as it runs down your body...see if that helps!
Reply:If it is a candida albicans caused problem, try putting on some anti-fungal cream in the itchy area, after you shower. If that relieves the itch, or completely removes it, then check out candida albicans at the yeast link at www.hufa.org for some basic information.
Reply:Maybe you have fleas. Try dog shampoo.
