How do you cope with keratosis pilaris, tiny bumps and reddened skin on upper arms?

I've read about using gentle exfoliation and using a good moisturizer.. but what treatments (specifically, what moisturizer) can anyone recommend that actually worked to lessen the redness and get rid of the tiny bumps?
