Does it eventually clear up or is it a life long condition? My 11 year old daughter was just diagnosed with it.
Does anyone have hyper keratosis pilaris? How do you treat it?
I have keratosis pilaris on my upper arms.. that's about the age i was diagnosed with it.
the dermatologists were of no help.
Every night, I put baby oil on my upper arms about an hour before i shower. And then right after i get out, I put on the vaseline (petroleum jelly). it gets all absorbed into my skin, and when i wake up in the morning my skin is super moist. This helps a lot, as dry skin makes it a lot worse.
there really is no cure, but i'm 14 now and it went from being able to see a mile away to only having a few of those bumps pop up every once in a while. i really think the oil and vaseline helped. it's a very cheap fix.
Reply:You are likely aware that apparently, because of lack of proper desquamation of keratinocytes, the follicular orifice becomes plugged with keratin and results in a keratotic papule. A variable degree of perifollicular erythema occurs. Keratosis pilaris is a benign disorder; treatment in most cases requires simple reassurance and general skin care recommendations. Many patients find lesions cosmetically unappealing and therefore seek treatment. Occasionally, they may become secondarily infected because of scratchy tight-fitting clothing or abrasive self-therapy, in which case treatment of the infection is necessary. A significant inflammatory component may be present and may be relieved with topical steroid therapy. Treatment of the non-inflamed horny papules can be difficult because they have proven resistant to most modes of therapy. At this time there is no cure for keratosis pilaris. In all cases when detailed medical information is required, you would be advised to consult your doctor or dermotologist.
I add a link that contains details of this subject.
